At the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam International Foundation, spearheaded by House of Kalam, Rameswaram, we are embarking on a massive initiative to plant one crore trees. This endeavor, initiated by our late President, aims to instill a sense of social responsibility towards the environment and conserve resources for future generations. The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation, under the auspices of House of Kalam, Rameswaram (AKIF), launched this project on the fourth year remembrance day of former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in a grand manner at Rameswaram.
We inaugurated a one crore tree plantation drive in Tamil Nadu on March 28th, 2019, at Vels University, Chennai, in the presence of the Honorable Governor of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Banwarilal Purohit, along with numerous educationalists and environmentalists.
The fundamental idea of the project is to establish nurseries in each district from the ground level, starting from scratch, in collaboration with educational institutes, corporates under Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, district administrative teams including the District Forest Department, District Mineral Foundation Trust, and various other environmental departments and NGOs.
This initiative aims to engage the student community to raise awareness about the importance of trees for the health and well-being of future generations.
The urgent need of the hour is to mitigate the impending catastrophe of global warming by replenishing the green cover and implementing other precautionary measures. By mobilizing the youth and other stakeholders, we aim to achieve Dr. Kalam's vision for 2020. Each institution in all districts will work collectively towards the goal of planting one crore trees. Participating students will receive certificates, while school management will be honored with certificates and shields from the House of Kalam, Rameswaram.
It would be an honor and a matter of pride for institutions to be part of this monumental initiative. We kindly request your participation in this ambitious plantation drive project.
After the project was launched, the Airport Authority of India came forward to support this environmental activity as part of their Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) projects in Tuticorin district. This collaboration was formalized through a tripartite agreement with the district administration.
Under the guidance of the District Collector, we completed the assigned work, and the report was submitted to the respective departments.
