The world has seen many here a won’t come crusade against innumerable issues, as it’s protecting the planet, fighting poverty or battling inequalities. All these culminate a common objective of making this planet endurable. An immaculate house and a flawless environment doesn't help us to meet the cause, unless the living people carry a blemished heart which refuses to think their fellow beings as equals. A sense of inclusiveness, acceptance, respecting diversity, narrowing the gap among classes, is indispensable for nations to prosper. In the current scenario amidst all the chaos, if the people find peace, it would be the most luxurious trait a nation can ever have. Rich and powerful nations can never buy peace. The world has seen how small nations have been in the spotlight for having a relatively peaceful and a content life.
No country can ever prosper when its society is plagued by injustice. The individual life of patience put up by the oppressed is very less. The only strategy is to prevent a revolt by the oppressed would be to shun discrimination and disparity.
On the occasion of the 89th birth anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, we would like to focus on grooming a peaceful society. The historic speech of Dr. Kalam at the Golden Jubilee of the European Union is still fresh in our minds. Dr. Kalam quoted "When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world". From his words, it is intelligible that the onus lies on the individuals to build a tolerant atmosphere. A peaceful society is a reflection of their mind-set. Remember, charity begins at home. Every household should turn into an abode of peace, moulding the younger generation into considerate righteous citizens.
Dr. Kalam also quoted from the Tamil classic literature "Puranaanooru" which mentions, "yaadhum oorae, yaavarum kaeleer". The translation of which is, "Every city belongs to us and every citizen, our kin". This phrase, shrinks the global community into a small world where people are encouraged to accept the entire inhabitants as one family. Once this feeling of oneness is held closer to our hearts, a peaceful world isn't a distant dream anymore.
